Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Alifa Ahmed of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) won the Kaliganj Assembly constituency by-election in West Bengal with a total of 1,02,759 votes. The result was announced after the completion of all 23 rounds of counting. Ahmed secured a winning margin of 50,049 votes over her nearest rival.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashish Ghosh finished second with 52,710 votes, followed by Indian National Congress candidate Kabil Uddin Shaikh who received 28,348 votes. The NOTA (None of the Above) option received 2,502 votes. The margin between the winner and the BJP candidate stood at 50,049 votes.
The by-election was held to fill a vacancy in the Kaliganj Assembly seat. The voting and counting were conducted under administrative supervision, with counting carried out in 23 rounds. The final status confirmed Alifa Ahmed as the elected MLA from the constituency.
